August 12, 2010: There's good news for travelers on the Capital Beltway.

On the Maryland side of the Beltway, traffic fatalities are down 73 percent, according to an August 11, 2010 article by the Washington Examiner.

Maryland State Police are taking the credit for the large reduction in fatalities.  Their officers have been stepping up enforcement on Maryland's side of the Beltway in Prince George's County, issuing 23,000 tickets this year.

Virginia has been increasing their efforts as well, adding an additional 100 police monthly on the Beltway.

As a result drivers are slowing down on the Beltway, creating a safer commute for everyone.
